Slow Down {Hint, Hint}: Bigger Picture Moment

I talk fast. I walk fast. I eat fast. I drive fast. Heck I even blog fast.

I'm just constantly in a hurry. Where am I going in such a rush?

Sometimes it's a legitimate reason. Like rushing out the door to work, rushing to pick up or drop off the boys.

At other times...well...I just rush for the sake of rushing. Time is VERY important to me and I don't want to waste a single moment getting from point A to point B.

Which can be a problem.

Because sometimes I don't stop to smell the roses, I don't stop to listen to the laughter and I don't stop for red lights...oops...

And because I'm in such a hurry and I never stop moving subtly is kinda lost in the midst of that chaos.

Which means I need to be hit over the head in order to get the hint.

If you can't tell. This is a letter from the DOT telling me that if I don't stop speeding around, and I get another ticket I'll lose my license for 90 days.

WOW!

Now if that isn't incentive to slow down I don't know what is.

Slowing down has been a challenge for sure. Expecially when there are so many people hurrying around you, pushing you, trying to make you hurry along with them.

It's been a couple of weeks now, and each time we get in the car E yells "Slow down mom. You can't speed." Which in all honesty has been VERY helpful.

So, as I cruise to work at the appropriate speed, I say to the powers that be, "I get the hint. Point made."

SLOW DOWN and soak in the beauty of the day.
Every Thursday we share the harvest of intentional living by capturing
a glimpse of the Bigger Picture through a Simple Moment.

Yikes! But...at least you have a beautiful sky to tempt you to linger, right? And it helps to have someone hollering at you in the backseat. :) Still, that letter seemed intense...yikes!

Hey---- my husband got one of those same letters in the mail a few months ago! He has to go a whole year with no speeding tickets... it's killing him, and oh my- it feels like we are CRAWLING down the interstate now when he's the driver!

I love how you saw the Bigger Picture in what could be super stressful, gleaning a bigger view and bigger lesson than just to stop speeding in the car. REally, really good, Brook. <3

You are awesome for having the humility to slow down (literally) and find the grander lesson in all this. And I'm glad for the moments when you forget, you have a tiny reminder (literally) in the backseat :)

This reminds me of a story a friend told me the other day. She was running as usual and really worn out. She sent up a prayer, "God, I can't go on like this. Please send a sign to show me what i need to do." No kidding a tractor turned onto the road in front of her and started driving 10 mph.
Her response. I don't get why God won't answer me. In the end I was late to the soccer game and still didn't have an answer.
So glad you saw your "tractor" for what it was intended to be!

Ouch! That is one heck of a reminder! Speeding becomes such a habit, doesn't it? Well hopefully slowing things down a bit has some calming, peace-inducing effects too. :)

You are now ready to join the club I belong to - the "International Institute of Not Doing Much." They have a "Slow Manifesto" and tips on "How to Slow Down." I haven't actually slowed down yet, but I consider this the first step.

Oh dear, you are a "habitual violator"!! This is when cruise control can be very helpful. And also the little guy reminding you, too. Maybe you should play that old Simon & Garfunkel song: "Slow down, you move too fast; you gotta make the morning last..(Feelin' Groovy).
I don't speed much these days, but I often have to remind myself to slow down and breathe during the day-- to be in the moment here and not in the world of all the things I have to/should be doing. I think we all struggle with that.
